haiku and tanka books by Larry Kimmel

alone tonight is a long sequence of interspersed haiku and tanka, with the occasional mini-haibun.  The seasons are an organizing factor;  however, themes are subtly interwoven, not over a single year, but rather cycling through three years.   Here are the best of Kimmel’s early haikai work.  A Winfred Press Book: 1998. Perfect bound, 6 x 9, 68 pp.
$11.00 plus $3.00 postage (media mail)  (use orderform and write in this book or request a paypal invoice.)

the necessary fly

at Kate's Diner
        under the plastic cake lid
               – the necessary fly                    title poem

says much about the working aesthetic upon which the haiku of this book are based.  As this is a gathering of the poet' s favorites over an eleven year span, readers will necessarily find some overlap of haiku from his earlier book, alone tonight, however, the greater part of this collection is not to be found elsewhere.   Kimmel has a great range of interests, employing the full five senses, touching not only on keenly caught moments in nature but also in human nature and the erotic.  A Winfred Press Chapbook:  2001 - 2007.  Perfect bound, 6 x 9, 38 pp.
$7.00 plus $2.50 postage (media mail)  (use orderform and write in this book or request a paypal invoice.)

a river years from here is a book of haibun, with occasional poems both in traditional and free form that complement the overall themes.  Kimmel is as always a careful observer of both the natural environment, as well as human relational events.  He ranges from the lyrical, or prose poem, to the anecdotal, to the brief, but biting memoir.  Included in a river years from here is a Whitmanesque-style account of the Johnstown Flood of 1889, as experienced and told by his maternal grandmother who, as a child, floated through this unforgettable catastrophe on a rooftop.  A Winfred Press Book: 2005 - 2007. Perfect bound, 6 x 9, 68 pp.
$7.00 plus $2.50 postage (media mail)  (use orderform and write in this book or request a paypal invoice.)

haibun by Jerry Kilbride
Tracings: Haibun by Jerry Kilbride/2003/Lily Pool Press/drawings by Chukiat Jaroensuk/mock perfect bound (folded cover with hand-sewn binding/9" (h)x 6" (w). Limited letter press edition
$15.00 plus $2.50 postage (media mail) or $5.10 postage (Flat rate priority mail) (use orderform and write in this book or request a paypal invoice.)

Limited edition was printed in letterpress on Hammer paper with a Quest flyleaf and Skytone cover. This is Jerry Kilbride's last book. Jerry was a MASTER poet whose prose ran head to head with his verse. Kilbride's work stands up to and possibly surpasses the best haibun pieces.  His haibun take us across the globe and through decades of adventures. I couldn't recommend a better batch of haibun from this poet who met Jack Kerouac a couple of times as well as Allen Ginsberg. Jerry is the real thing.  This edition is limited to a 250 copy print run.  This book will stay in your library. It's a keeper!
